Hi! I am Mrs. Natalie Kerckhof (previously Borzel). I am so excited to get to join the NPCS team for the 2023/2024 year.

I have been teaching for the past 2 years in both British Columbia and Alberta. I have had the pleasure of teaching grades 1, 2, and 3 during these years. I love teaching and being able to join another Christian Education Community is an absolute blessing.
Outside of school, you can often find me outdoors. Whether it’s reading, kayaking, hiking, or playing with my dogs, I love being out in God’s beautiful creation. Sports are a passion of mine and you can often find me playing for a variety of teams throughout the year. I grew up playing soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, and dancing. Above all, I love spending time with my family and growing in my faith.

I love teaching a variety of subjects, like in life, I love trying out new things and finding what makes each unique and interesting.  I live near Barrhead, Alberta with my husband, daughters, dogs, chickens, pigs, goats (and whatever other random animal we have decided to adopt lately).   When we aren’t tending to our little funny farm, we enjoy spending time outside exploring the wonderful world God has given us.

I grew up in southern Alberta on a farm near Hussar and graduated with an Early Childhood Education degree from the University of Calgary. My husband and I live on a farm close to Neerlandia and have 4 children, a daughter in high school and three sons that attend NPCS. I enjoy going for walks and appreciating all the beautiful landscapes in Alberta!

Update: For the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, Mrs. Mast is on maternity leave.   As of Nov. 10, 2022 Mrs. Laura Mast began a maternity leave. Ms. Lisa Gehring took over the Gr. 2/3 teaching position as of Dec. 1, 2022.

This will be my eighth year of teaching, but my third at NPCS. I am excited to spend this fall at school after being at home for all of last year on maternity leave. My husband and I own a small hobby farm south of Neerlandia, where we are currently raising our kids (Keith, 4 and Marie, 2 and Joyce, 10 months) alongside some animal friends. We love spending time together whether it be outside exploring, going on tractor rides, or hanging out with our extended families. For the past 7 years I have taught grade 1 in Westlock, followed by 4 years teaching grades K-9 at Pibroch Hutterite Colony School, and finally spending the last 2 years teaching grade 3 and 1 in Neerlandia.  My experience with a variety of grades and teaching scenarios has taught me a lot about myself as a teacher. I have taught many combined grade subjects before and I am excited to dive into a combined classroom again! This year I will be teaching a Grade 2/3 combined class.  Combined classrooms are such a blessing in that they allow us to appreciate the many talents and ranges of abilities in students across grades, while also discovering new friendships we may not have otherwise. I am passionate about my students and truly believe that each child brings something special to the classroom. I grew up loving school and learning and my goal is to transfer that love for learning and discovering new things to each student I teach.

I am excited to be teaching grade 8 and having an Elementary PE specialist role this year at NPCS.  I grew up in Neerlandia and attended NPCS from Kindergarten to Grade 10. After I completed high school I went off to play baseball and pursue a teaching career in lovely Nanaimo, BC.  My wife, Carmen, and I have very fond memories of our years on Vancouver Island but have always known we wanted to settle down right here in Neerlandia.  After graduating from Vancouver Island University with a Bachelor of Education and Physical Education Diploma we moved back to our home province of Alberta. I taught Gr. 5 at NPCS now for a few years and loved it! I did spend 7 years teaching at Barrhead Elementary School in a variety of roles and grade levels, including being the Physical Education Specialist previously. My passion for Education is in building relationships with the students, parents, teachers, and community. I love being part of some of the extra curricular activities that NPCS has to offer.

We have 3 children. Theo, Etta, and Sylvie who we love spending as much time with as we can. I am excited to continue the culture of a caring, safe, athletic, and Christian education the students receive here at NPCS.

Kim Sybesma is our Grade 4 teacher.  Mrs. Sybesma has been teaching since 1990, taking some years off in between to be a stay at home mom. She has experience teaching preschool and grades 1 – 5 . She was the associate principal from 2015 – June 2020.In 1990, Kim graduated from the University of Alberta after previously getting 3 years of education at The King’s University.

Kim has taken many different courses and workshops throughout the years. Her storyline which she tries to live out in her life and to encourage her students is from 2 Corinthians 4:6–His Light is Shining Through.

God said, “Let light shine out of darkness.” He made his light shine in our hearts. His light gives us the light to know God’s glory. His glory is shown in the face of Christ.

Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, “Light up the darkness!” and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful.

Mrs. Sybesma tries to show the light of Christ to her students and staff.

When not at school, I truly enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  My husband and I have three daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren. Staying active is also a passion of mine; whether it is winter activities, water sports or walking and enjoying all of God’s creations.
