Neerlandia Pre-school General Information
The Neerlandia Christian Education Society (NCES) operates the preschool program out of the Kindergarten classroom at Neerlandia Public Christian School. In order to attend children must turn four before December 31st of the current school year and be toilet trained. The program runs on Wednesday mornings from 8:30am-11:30am, from October - April. The Pre-school program follows the school calendar in regards to holidays, Christmas, and Spring Break.
The Neerlandia Pre-School is an early childhood education program focusing on learning and play in a Christian setting. Through the program we try to instill a positive school experience for these first time learners. Our program is also geared to promote literacy. This means that each lesson will be based on a letter of the alphabet, giving the child an opportunity to be introduced to the entire alphabet over the course of the year. The children will have the opportunity to share, cooperate and enjoy interaction together throughout the morning. Along with the letter and word of the day, the class will be participating in morning devotions, a short lesson, calendar activities, exploring play centers, going to the gym/playground, a creative craft time and a snack time. It is a busy morning! Each week there will be a "Star of the Day" and that child will be able to bring in an item from home for classroom “show and tell”. A parent helper is needed to assist in each pre-school class to maintain the proper child to adult ratio. The "parent/guardian of the day" is listed on a rotational list (roster).
Registration day for pre-school is held in May, in the Kindergarten room at Neerlandia Public Christian School. You and your child are invited to come and discover the pre-school classroom and ask any questions about the program. When you register your child, you will be given a package with further parent information, a registration form, and field trip permission form. You will also need to provide your child’s Alberta Health Care number and medical contact information. Payment for the program will be required when a letter is sent out confirming your child’s registration in the upcoming class. For your information the following criteria will apply to registrations:
- The class maximum is 13 children. The pre-school program will not be offered unless 8 or more children are registered.
- Four-year-old children with siblings in Neerlandia Public Christian School (NPCS) will be given first priority for admission should the class size exceed the maximum number. The second priority will be given to potential new families that plan to send their child to Kindergarten at NPCS. Any additional names will be drawn randomly to complete the class of 13.
